Given the fancy technological state of Adam Driver’s spaceship and weaponry in this trailer, I think it’s fair to say he’s from the future… a future where including passengers on a “long-range exploratory mission” makes sense. But everything goes kablooey and then? Then he’s in the past. With dinosaurs.

He couldn’t just come across a nice stegosaurus to start this dino party off? Nah, always with the T. rex.

Let us also note that the dinosaurs are not the aliens here. Adam Driver is. It’s their planet, man. Leave the dinos alone!

But no: This calls for advanced space guns and also a young girl who just wants to get home. Here’s the summary:

After a catastrophic crash on an unknown planet, pilot Mills (Adam Driver) quickly discovers he’s actually stranded on Earth … 65 million years ago. Now, with only one chance at rescue, Mills and the only other survivor, Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), must make their way across an unknown terrain riddled with dangerous prehistoric creatures in an epic fight to survive.

It is not yet clear why the dinosaurs are so determined to hunt the tiny, snack-sized humans when presumably there are larger dinosaurs for them to make heartier meals of.

This trailer does exactly what you expect it to do: The soundtrack goes BWAAAAA, the dinos go RAWWWWWR, and Adam Driver does a strangely mellow monologue about having crash-landed on a mysterious planet. The final score, though, may be a bit more intriguing: Variety notes that Danny Elfman will be scoring the film, which is produced by Sam Raimi.

65 is written and directed by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods, who wrote A Quiet Place and are clearly into the idea of a very small number of humans facing off against a larger and presumably quite carnivorous species. It’s in theaters March 10th, 2023.
